Då Mary avslutat sin utförliga beskrivning på
födelse-dagsfirandet gör hon på baksidan av det stora arket
följande tillägg: »I cannot refrain from mentioning that
our servants all did their best in assisting with the
arrangements for and during the birthday party, which
gave them not a little extra work. Of Bengtson’s zeal
and energy I have already spoken, Anna was very
helpful, Amanda assisted where she could, and Lotta did
her very best in preparing every kind of excellent viands
for supper, the delicious marrow pasties which people
only get at our house, delicate omelettes etc. etc. with
no other help than that of Christine Bergman, our
former dairymaid, now married. I wonder indeed that
she could get it ready all in time, and each dish just
when wanted. Johanson managed the invitations very
well and made a good looking and handy »waktmästare»,
poor Anderson had only to attend to the cattle, our
horse was never taken out that evening. I have thus
tried to give each their due, and must say that without
such efficient servants we could not have given the
party at all; to have procured help from strangers
would have been far too expensive for us. Maria at
the gate also did all she could in the way of helping,
both on the birthday, and the days before and after it.»
