Men hon orkade inte länge med alla dessa
ansträngningar, hon blev svårt sjuk. Hennes syster Charlotte ville
gärna hjälpa och bistå henne så mycket hon kunde,
men fick själv en svår bronchit. Emily bars till hennes
säng för att taga avsked av sin älskade syster, som
stilla insomnade för att aldrig vakna mer här nere.
Charlottes dödsdag den 25:te februari 1895 skildras av
Mary i Dagboken sålunda: »Our darling Charlotte was
poorly with cough and cold, so remained in bed
Tuesday and Wednesday, very weak, but we did not think
dangerously ill. Christine watched beside her the night
to Thursday, she slept quietly, so we would not wake
her to give her medicine, but between 8 and 9 next
morning a change came on. I hurried out of bed,
we were all about her, but she was unconscious; we
never got one word or look of our beloved one. We
had sent at once to Dr v. Sydow, and Mr Despard,
but nothing could be done. About 11 a. m. she must
have drawn her last breath, calmly, without a pang;
a blessed end, peaceful and sweet, as her whole life
had been. »For her to live is Christ, to die is gain»,
may well be said. She had suffered much in her life;
but oh so patiently, such an example for us all. —
Several kind friends came to express their sympathy.
On Saturday John came from Degeberg. Saturday March
3 was the sad day when this darling sister was to be
taken to her last resting place. We had seen her lying
so sweetly asleep in the upper spare room, arranged
like a little chapel, with bright flowers and greenery
around her, the first yellow rose in her hand. Then
came the most beautiful wreaths, about 50 in number,
from friends far and near. John, Robert Thorburn,
