DOCUMENT 92.
SWEDENBORG TO BENZELIUS. *
Most honoured and dear brother,
Since my departure from Stockholm I have
not had time to send you the continuation of my Anatomy;
nor can I send it to you from here, because I have not my
first draught with me, and my head does not well recall things
from memory; with the first opportunity I will again communi
cate something to you.
At Starbo68 I heard something from a person named Kock,
which is worthy of an observation, that I will take about mid
summer in the coming month of June : He watched one night
with another man on a mountain, about a mile and a half
from Starbo; the name of the mountain is Hönsberget, it
lies midway between Lödwiken and Hellsjön, and has at its
base, on the side which lies towards the setting sun, a large
lake, known by the name of Wesman; there he has seen the
sun during almost the whole night above the horizon ; and
when, in the middle of the night, the sun set for about half
an hour, he still saw it in Lake Wesman.t He told this as
substantially true to the master of mines, Lars Benzel, and
myself; if this really is so, Lake Wesman must have been the
chief cause of the phenomenon, from its making the horizon
damp and more disposed for refraction. Meanwhile, I do not
wish to place any reliance on this account, until I have made
the same observation, which would be worth a place in the
Acta eruditorum . With kind regards to sister Anna and little
Eric, I remain, most honoured and dear brother,
Your most obedient servant
EMAN . SWEDENBORG .
