Discrepancy in calculation 8° 131 .
In the above computation the latitude of the place was
taken as 59° 52’, when yet accurately stated it is one-third
of a minute less ; as this small difference is however more
sensible in the latter part of the computation, it has there
been taken into consideration.
2. The computation of the magnetic declination for the
year 1740, at Torneå, instituted according to the rules laid
down by the most noble Assessor Swedenborg.
[As this computation has neither been examined nor animad
verted upon by Swedenborg, and as the principles followed
are the same as those according to which Magister Hiorter
computed the declination of the needle for Upsal, we do not
deem it necessary to insert this computation here.]
