was issued in Hildburghausen in 1754 ; and a fourth was published
by Swedenborg himself in 1766, concerning which see Document 203,
Vol. I, p. 590 et seq. An English edition prepared by Mr. Strutt
was published by the Swedenborg Association in 1847, in the same
volume with the "Principles of Chemistry," pp. 213 to 227.
1721. (31.) Artificia nova mechanica Receptacula Navalia
et Aggeres Aquaticos construendi; et Modus mechanice
explorandi virtutes et qualitates diversi generis et construc
tionis Navigiorum (A New mechanical plan for construct
ing Docks and Dykes ; and a mode of discovering the
powers of Vessels by the application of mechanical prin
ciples). Amsterdam, John Osterwyk; 21 pages, 8vo ; a
second edition was published in 1727.
The scientific papers were published by the author in one volume
with the treatise "On finding the longitude" (no. 31). They were
mentioned in the Acta Eruditorum of Leipzig, for May, 1722,
pp. 266 et seq.; and an English translation prepared by Mr. Strutt
was published by the Swedenborg Association in London in 1847,
as an Appendix to the "Principles of Chemistry," pp. 229 to 241.
The first paper describes the building of the Dock at Carlscrona
which had been previously described by the author in the Swedish
language in no. 23, and the second paper discusses the construction
of the famous dam near Lyckeby, both of which mechanical feats
were executed by Christopher Polhem with Swedenborg’s assistance.
1722. (32.) Nova Regulæ de Caloris Conservatione in Con
clavibus (New Rules for maintaining Heat in Rooms);
in the Acta Literaria Suecia for 1722, pp. 282-285.
This paper the author sent to Ericus Benzelius in a letter,
dated Liège, November 29, 1721, which is photo-lithographed in
Vol. I of the Swedenborg MSS., pp. 188 and 189. See Docu
ment 311, no. 26.
1722. (33.) Miscellanea Observata circa Res Naturales et
præsertim circa Mineralia, Ignem, et Montium Strata
(Miscellaneous Observations on the things of nature, and
especially on minerals, fire, and the strata of mountains).
Parts I to III, Leipzig, 164 pages, 16mo ; Part IV, Schiff
beck near Hamburg, H. H. Holle, 56 pages, 16mo.
Parts I to III are dedicated to Count Gustaf Bonde,"
175 President
of the College of Mines, and Part IV to Ludwig Rudolph,15 Duke
of Brunswick. Twelve chapters of this work the author sent in
