CALENDAR FOR 1743 AND 1744. 1089
treating on theology and similar subjects ; because all this I have
from the Word of God and the Holy Spirit." And again he says
in no. 203 : "By this is signified that I must not take of articles
manufactured by others, but must use my own."
NOTE 163.
CALENDAR OF SWEDENBORG’S WHEREABOUTS IN
1743 AND 1744.
The following dates are extracted from his Diary for 1743
and 1744 :
1743.
July 21. He left Stockholm (Document 207).
August 12. He arrived in Hamburg (do.)
August 20. He left Bremen (do.)
September 2 old style, 13 new style. He drew 500 florins from
Messrs. Muillman and Sons [in Amsterdam] * (Document 134).
November 12. He drew "finally" (omsider) 500 florins from Messrs.
Muillman and Sons (Document 134).
[December] 11. He speaks of having arrived at the Hague (Document 208).
1744.
January 20. Received 500 florins by draft on Balair at the Hague
(Document 134).
April 16. He was with Ambassador Preis at the Hague (Document 209,
no. 85).
April 23. He was at Leyden on a short trip to Amsterdam
(do., no. 113).
April 24. At Amsterdam (do., no. 116).
April 25. He returned to the Hague (do., no. 118).
May 13 new style. He left the Hague on his journey to England
(do., no. 132).
May 4 old style [16, new style]. He arrived at Harwich in England
(do., no. 133).
May 5 old style [17, new style]. He arrived in London (do., no. 137).
* As Swedenborg’s banker at the Hague was Balair (see Document 134), it seems most prob
able that Messrs. Muillman and Co. mentioned in Document 134 were his bankers at Amster
dam ; and from the fact that in drawing money from that firm on November 12 Swedenborg
used the term "finally" (omsider), it would seem as if this was the last sum of money
which he drew in Amsterdam, before leaving for the Hague. From this again it would
follow that the date 11 in Document 208, where Swedenborg speaks of his "arriving at
the Hague," means "[December] 11," because this necessarily must have been subsequently
to November 12, when be drew the "ast" sum of money from Messrs. Muillman & Sons.
