Mr. White says in his Preface,
"It will be observed, that it [the
Book of Dreams] has enabled me
to vindicate the memory of the
Rev. A. Mathesius, who for many
years has been hooted through
Swedenborgian literature as a
slanderer, and subsequently a
madman" (I, p. vii).

CONTRADICTIONS IN MR. WHITE’S "LIFE" OF 1867.
Contradictions similar to those which exist between Mr. White in
1856 and Mr. White in 1867, occur also in his "Life" of 1867, where
we meet with the following contradictory expressions :
"If Swedenborg desired fame "Swedenborg lived to the end,
he never left the path of good hankering after recognition from
sense to look for it ... The desire the Scribes and Pharisees, from
for fame, or gain, or vengeance authorities, civil and ecclesiasti
has provoked many a head into cal (I, p. 322). He fancied it
