Slottet forevises i Regelen daglig, naar man
henvender sig til Vagtmesteren, som bor i Kjælderetagen
i den søndre Fløi.
S. Foran Slottet staar den i 1875 opreiste Bytterstatue
af Kong Carl Johan (Tegning Nr. S). Den er
modelleret af Billedhugger Brynjulf Bergslien og bekostet
ved frivillige Bidrag fra det hele Land.
StorthingMbyKningen danner Kvartalet mellem
Eidsvoldsplads, Carljohansgade og Akersgaden. Til
Bygningen, som er opført i romansk og byzantinsk
Stil, ere Tegningerne leverede af den svenske Architekt
Langlet, som ogsaa forestod Byggearbeidet. Den
omgives mod Nord af Carl Johans Gade, mod Øst af
Akersgaden, mod Syd af Storthingsgaden og mod Vest
af Eidsvoldsplads. Byggematerialet er gul
Flensburger-8ten. Til ydre Dekoration, til den høie Sokkel og til
de for Veirliget stærkt udsatte Profiler er anvendt rød
Granit. Hovedfaçaden vender ud mod Eidsvoldsplads.
Den danner en halvcirkelformet Bygning med tvende
fremspringende Fløie, der indeslutte et aabent
Gaards-rum. Opkjørselen til dette er forsynet med Rækværk
sf Granit, og paa dettes nederste Del mod Carl Johans
Gade og Storthingspladsen er opstillet tvende i Granit
hugne Løver, der ere modellerede af Billedhugger Borch.
Paa Midtpartiet af Façaden mod Carl Johans Gade er
anbragt tre Porte. Indenfor disse er en Vestibule,
hvorigjennem Opgang til Storthingsgalleriet. Façaden
mod Akersgaden viser tvende Fløibygninger, forbundne
med hinanden ved en lavere toetages Bygning, hvori
Rigsarkivets Kontorer og Bolig for Budet ved dette.
I den Fløi, som er nærmest Carl Johans Gade, er Op-
■ Christiania.
North, is abuts on Carl Johans Gade, east, on
Akersgaden, south, on Storthingsgaden, and west, on
Eids-voldspladsen. The building material is yellow
Flens-burg brick. For the massive socle, all angular
extremities, and the outside decorations, red granite has
been employed.
The chief façade overlooks the Eidsplads. The
main building comprises a semicircular erection and
two projecting wings, forming a spacious court. A fine
balustrade, at each extremity of which is the figure of
a couchant lion, modelled by Borch, and hewn in
granite, embellishes tho approach to the latter. The façade
in Carl Johans Gade is pierced with three gateways,
beyond which a vestibule communicates by a flight of
steps with the Storthingsgalleri, or People’s Gallery.
Fronting Akersgaden are two smaller wings, connected
by a low two-story building, containing the Public
Record Office, and the messenger’s rooms. The members’
entrance is in the wing abutting on Carl Johans Gade,
The side facing the Storthingsgade closely resembles
that fronting Carl Johans Gade; it is however less richly
decorated.
The main entrance, consisting of an ornamented
porch with nine arcades, is beneath the hemicycle;
and, at the further extremity of a lofty vestibule, the
grand staircase communicates with the apartments above.
The Storthingssal, or Hall of Debate, which
overlooks the Eidsvoldsplads, has the form of en elongated
semicircle. Round this chamber there is a pillared
gallery, with room to seat 300 people. The President’s
chair adjoins the transverse wall; and in front of and
