Kjælderetagen og dels i 1ste Etage. Kan besees ved
Henvendelse til Bestyreren.
Bagenfor Universitetsbygningerne er et
Parkanlæg. I denne er opført tvende enetages Bygninger.
I den østre af disse, paa Hjørnet af Universitets- og
Christian den fjerdes Gade, er indrettet
Gymnastiklokale for de Studerende, og i den vestre, der er
beliggende paa Hjørnet af sidstnævnte og Frederiks Gade,
er Familiebolig for den ene af Professorerne i Chemi.
Midt imellem disse Bygninger er opført en mindre i
gammelnorsk Stil, hvori opbevares et Fartøi fra det
9de eller 10de Aarhundrede, som er fundet ved
Gravning i Smaalenene og indlemmet i den oldnordiskse
Samling; det kan besees naar man henvender sig til
Bestyreren af Oldsamlingen. I et ligeledes dersteds nylig
opført Hus staar det i 1880 paa Gogstad, ved
Sandefjord fundne og senere udgravede store Vikingeskib,
der hidrører fra Tiden mellem det 8de o^, Ilte
Aarhundrede. Dette interessante Oldtidsminde kan besees
hver Mandag og Fredag fra 12—2 og til andre Tider
mod en passende Godtgjørelse til vedkommende
Betjent, der træffes i Kjælderen i Universitetets
Midtbygning ligeoverfor Skibshuset. — I Parken, bag
Biblio-thekbygningen, er opreist 3 Runestene, den ene fra
Tune i Smaalenene, den anden fra Bø i Sogndal og
den tre die fra Skaalvold paa Lister.
Bet chemiske Laboratorium, som før var i
Universitetets Midtbygning, danner nu en egen nylig opført
Laboratoriebygning bagenfor Universitetsbygningerne
med_Façade til Frederiks Gads.
JJet astronomiske Laboratorium er beliggende i
the north-western corner of the building. Owing to
the restricted space, one rootn only is allotted to each
continental division, a sixth compartment being reserved
for the most complete collection, that of Lappish
objects, to which belongs a Sea-Lap habitation, —
erected in the grounds at the back of the building, —
comprising a turf-built hovel („Gamme"), storehouse,
and „Hjæld" (fish curing implements). Open Monday
and Friday 12—2.
The Collection of Physical Instruments is in the
first story of the main building (entrance-door left hand
side of vestibule).
In the grounds at the back of the University are
two one-story buildings; one of them, — viz. that at
the corner of Universitetsgaden and Christian den
Fjerdes Gade, — is fitted up for the practice of
gymnastics by the students; the other, — that at the
corner of Christian den Fjerdes and Frederiks Gade, —
serves as a private dwelling for one of the professors
of chemistry. Between these buildings, there is a
smaller erection, in the Old Norse style of architecture,
containing a Sea-King’s vessel from the 9the or 10th
century, found in excavating a barrow in Smaalenenes Amt.
It may be inspected by applying to the Keeper of
Northern Antiquities. In another newly built house
there is placed a large ,,Viking"ship which was found
and exhumed in 1880 from a mound on the farm of
Gogstad near Sandefjord; the ship is from the 8th or
11th century and this interesting memorial of antiqiuty
may be inspected every Monday and Friday from 12
to 2 and at other times by giving a gratuity to the
