more expanded. The patient has to make deep inspiration while
the movement progresses towards its climax, and afterwards
makes gradual expiration. This movement, when well executed,
is felt very strongly in the shoulder muscles. It is therefore
also indicated for those whose shoulders have a tendency to fall
forwards, as well as for chronic disorders of the lungs.
II. BOUND.
A. WITH HELP OF APPARATUS.
Bending backwards at the upper part of the Back.
The patient stands at a distance somewhat less than the length
of his own foot from the wall. He places his hands on his hips,

with his elbows well thrown back. Then he stretches himself
and bends backwards. When the movement cannot be continued
any further, the patient falls back until the back of his head
