rather, he thought of tbe little lad who had spent
whole days here in tlhe company of a fascinating
group of old men, whose interest in him had
gra-dually changed to marvel at his unheard of
pre-cocity. Right over there it was, by that siender
portico near the East Wall that looks across the
steep Valley of Jehoshaphat and up to the Mount
of Olives rising just behind. The Mount of Olives
with its Garden on the Western slope ! What
me-mories that must have brought o’f hours spent with
friends in intimate conversation among those
gnarled and twisted silver-green trees! What
fate-ful ihours were still to be spent in those steep, rocky
groves!
The eyes of that lonely Man must have sought
out the road which leaves the North Gate and winds
in graceful curves past Mt. Scopus and on into
that pleasant northern country around the Sea.
He must have thought of the little villages
clus-tered on the rocky hillsides with their checkered
fields of ripening grain in the shallow valleys
round about; of that deep well of crystal, limpid
water along the parched and dusty Samaritan road
by Mt Gerezim; af the low mountuins to which
he had often gathered the villagers about him and
had spent hours teaching them patiently, simply,
profoundly; of the mountain-enclosed waters of
Galilee on whose placid surface he had often rowed
