of $90,000. Another addition with a capacity of
40 beds was dedicated in Jannary 1925, at a cost
df $60,000. Tbese aditions are only a part of
a large budding program for which architets’ plans
are just now completed, calling for the erection of
a new center budding, five stories high, at a
cal-culated cost of $150,000. The plan is to have a
modern hospital unit on the fifth floor, as
expe-rience has taught us that with over 200 old people
in the Home we must be prepared to take care of
about 30 who constantly need hospital care.
The wisdom of the founders in securing so large
tract of land, when real estato was cheap, is proved
to us every day. In the first place it gives us ample
space for beautiful låwns and affords us room to
erect apartment ’buldings which furnish us reserve
funds when the income from regular sources is
insufficient. Our friends should remember,
how-ever, that this income must be a’reserve fund and
not permitted to be used for running expenses.
In the Home we care at present for 104 old friends
and the annual expense budget is over $35,000.
The statement, sometimes heard, that the old people
pay for their maintenance, is refuted by the faet
that up to the present time 75% of the cases have
been charity.
