The Susannah Wesley Home
opened its doors on October 31, 1905, under
impres-sive ceremonies conducted by the women of the
Swedish Methodist ehurches of Chicago.
The objeet of this Home is to extend a helping
hand the young women seeking employment, or to
such who are convalescing or in need of rest, to
transients in the great city or to those who need a
temporary shelter with clean and wholesome
sur-roundings. Many are also they who have reason to
thank God for the friendly care they have received
under the protecting wings of this Home. It is
maintained by the Central Swedish Conference; its
management is entrusted to a Board of 15 directors,
and though the guests pay a fee for board and room,
fhis is not sufficient to make it selfsupporting. Por
aiding worthy young women and to assist in the
upkeep, various individuals, organizations and
Ladies’ Auxiliaries contribute a special fund.
From a small beginning in a six room apartment,
the Home is now owning a fine three story house,
valued at about $30,000. Thirty-five persons can
be accommodated in this building. The aim of the
Directors is to secure a better location to satisfy
present day needs. For this purpose more money
is needed, and the Ladies Auxiliary offers
member-ship to anyone contributing $1.00 per annum.
This Home is doing a good work and deserves
hearty support by all our people.
