The Emanuel Home
for Aged People, in Clay Center, Kansas, was
chartered Oct. 16, 1907, to care for old people
with-in the Western Swedish Conferenee. The chamber
of Commerce donated a ten acre traet of land and
in 1910 a large brick building was erected. For
ten years this building gave shelter for the members
of the Home. On a cold Sunday afternoon in Dec.
1919 the Home was totally destroyed by fire. For
three years the members were housed in rented
quarters and no new members were received. In
1922 a new ten room building was erected which is
already filled to capacity. A larger building is
plan-ned for, the work on which will begin next Spring,
making it possiible to extend its usefulness. The
assets of the Home from all sources amount to
nearly $37,000. Rev. C. A. Holmgren is
Superintendent and is ably assisted by a Board of
Direc-tors, elected by the Conferenee.
The Bethel Home
at Ossining, is owned and m’aintained by the Eastern
Swedish Conferenee. The need of an institution
which could care for the aged and helpless within
the conferenee was felt for many years, until it
was deeided that an organization for this purpose
should be made. The Home was ineorporated on the
