this country from the time of the first colonists’
landing at Wilmington in 1638 up to the present
time. As an entertaining chapter of history it
commends itself. There are portraits of Gustaf
II Adolf, Axel Oxenstjerna, Jesper Svedberg, Eric
Tobias Björk, Gustaf III, Oscar II, President
Roosevelt, John Ericson, Jenny Lind, Christine
Nilsson, Hans Anderson, the sole survivor of the
crew who fought the Monitor against the
Merrimac, and others. It is an excellent work and
certainly of special interest to Delawareans, who
take a deep interest in the Swedes, who founded
this state. — Wilmington Morning News.

What Has Sweden Done for the United States?
— Lindsborg,
Lindsborgs-Posten.

What Has Sweden Done for the United States?
is the title of a brochure that has reached the
editor’s table. It is printed on the best paper,
16 illustrations of celebrities like Gustaf II Adolf,
Axel Oxenstjerna, Oscar II, John Ericson, and
others. It is ably edited, being a masterly
presentation of what the Swedes have done for the
United States, and surely reflects great credit
upon the author, Lars P. Nelson. The first six
pages are devoted to the First Swedish Settlement
in America, on the Delaware in 1638. Then on,
step by step, shows the impression this
nationality has made upon the history of this nation.
Statistics show that from 1820 to 1899 there have
arrived upon these shores 823,497 immigrants from
Sweden. Political economists have calculated
that each of these immigrants are worth $950 to
the country. This is admitted to be a low
estimate, but even then it shows an addition to the
wealth of the United States of $782,284,150. We
will not quote Mr. Nelson any further, but advise
every Swedish-American to send for the
interesting book, which is certainly cheap at 25 cents.

What Has Sweden Done for the United States?
är namnet på en vackert utstyrd och illustrerad
skrift af Lars P. Nelson. Den prydes med
portrait af sådana män som Gustaf II Adolf, Axel
Oxenstjerna, Dr. J. Svedberg, Pastor E. T. Björk
vid Christina-församlingen i Delaware, Gustaf III,
Oscar II, President Roosevelt, John Ericson, m. fl.
— Minneapolis

Mr. Lars P. Nelson of this city has written a
brochure on the debt the people of the United
States owe to Sweden. What Has Sweden Done
for the United States? is the title of the pamphlet
and between its covers the question is answered
definitely. It tells of the early Swedish
settlements in Delaware and Pennsylvania, of the mild
and kindly measures adopted toward the red men
in those days and reminds the readers that
Sweden was the first European power which
unsolicited extended a helping hand to the struggling
colonies in their fight for independence. The
part played by Sweden’s sons and daughters in
the development of the country is shown and in
many ways the tie that binds the two countries
together is made apparent. The booklet is
