SWEDEN AND THE UNITED STATES.
Lars P. Nelson of Chicago has written and
published an interesting book entitled: “What Has
Sweden done for the United States?” It is
brimful of valuable information concerning the Swedes
in America and elaborately illustrated, besides
being well printed and otherwise attractive. The
illustrations include a fine portrait of Magister
Eric Tobias Björk, pastor of Christina
congregation in Wilmington from 1697 to 1714, through
whose efforts Trinity (Old Swedes) church, in this
city, was built and dedicated on Trinity Sunday,
1699. There are also portraits of Theodore
Roosevelt, President of the United States, and Oscar
II, King of Sweden and Norway, together with a
number of other prominent Swedish characters in
the history and development of this country. —
Every Evening, Wilmington, Del.

Mr. E. A. Johnson, of New York, the well-known
General Agent for America of the
Scandinavian-American Steamship line, writes me as follows:
“My Dear Mr. Nelson, It seems you, like the good
Swedish farmer, is plowing a deep and straight
furrow — and that is the primary requirement for a
uniformly good harvest, but you have outdone
yourself in your beautiful pamphlet, ”What
Sweden Has Done for America?” I read it carefully
last night, and with increased interest and
patriotic sentiment, till the last page was finished.
The pith of the production is its brevity and terse
clear diction, and for its purpose is well up above
par.” — Letter of Mr. E. A. Johnson, April 8, 1903.
*
The Reverend Dr. E. Norelius, President of the
Augustana Synod, also writes me as follows:
“Vasa, Minn., April 14, 1903. Mr. L. P. Nelson,
Chicago, Ill. My dear sir, I have received your
brochure, “What Has Sweden Done for the United
States?” and have read it with great satisfaction.
The field which you thus point out could no doubt
be greatly extended and I believe with much profit,
too. Taking a great pleasure in recommening
your work on this line, I am very respectfully
yours truly, E. Norelius.”

I have quoted sixteen papers and two private
letters above, all of them highly commendatory to
my book. I have yet over thirty other newspaper
clippings, and new ones come in daily, and a
number of private letters, all in praise of the book,
which I have not room to print, but can only
thank the editors and writers for their hearty
good will and kindness in expressing it. By the
approval my little book has met with I am
emboldened to say to my countrymen all over this
broad land, that they will do themselves and their
friends a good turn by sending for the book,
recommending it to their friends and encouraging
its circulation, the effect of its distribution in the
largest possible number is only for good, as it
reflects credit upon the Swedes in the minds of
all who read it.
The price is 25c per copy, $10 for fifty copies, and
$16 for 100 copies, post and express charges prepaid.
For single orders postage stamps, (1 and 2 cents
only), can be used in payment. For larger orders
P. O. money orders should be sent. Always write
name and address plain and correct.
Very truly yours,
LARS P. NELSON.
