August 23rd, 24th, and 25th.—The praises of
Sande had reached us when far away. Bennett
describes it as “one of the most comfortable
stations in Norway; food and attendance
unsurpassed.” On the faith of these we resolved to
spend the Sunday and make even a further resting
halt at this station. Our anticipations, though
perilously sanguine, were fully realized, and we
join in the general chorus of “Skaal to Siversten
and Sande.”
The excellence of this station is the more
remarkable from the fact that it has no special
advantages of position; is not at the mouth of
any great valley, nor on a fjord where tourists
