Battened box; old style. Torrolm Box; nailed. Torroba Box; look-cornered
The Torroba Boxes are supplied in two different types, one of which is intended
to be put together entirely by nailing, while the other is put together by having the
sides and the ends joined by means of “lock-cornering”, i. e., glued mortise-joints,
after which the bottom (and the top) are nailed on. This latter method is cheap in
execution and, as can be seen by the above breaking-test report, adds considerably to the
strength of the box. The fact that the Torroba Box is better suited than any other kind of
box for this method of putting together is one of the greatest advantages of the Torroba Box.
In consequence of the extraordinarily
good results obtained by the employment
of the wedge-shaped dovetailing method
of joining discribed above, the company,
during the last few years, has begun to
apply it, not only in the manufacture
of box materials, but also in the
production of joinery-work of considerable
breadths. Planks, for exemple, are jointed
together to a breadth of from 9 to 30
inches, and such planks can be supplied
to a length of 16 feet. The jointed boards
of, say, 11 inches in breadth, which are
at GOO kg. (1,350 lbs.) pressure.
5/s’’ ends: sides, tops
& bottoms.
at 833 kg. 1,874 lbs. pressure.
5/a" ends: i" sides, tops
& bottoms.
at 413 kg. (92G lbs.) pressure.
8A" ends: 5/a" sides, tops
& bottoms.
