FORESTS.

During the past, the leaders of the Uddeholm business have, with the greatest
foresight, taken the^ measures necessary to obtain for the Company the forest areas
requisite to secure a full supply of timber for its needs. At present the Company
owns a total area of 281,600 hectares (700,000 acres = 1,100 sq. miles), of which.
215,400 hectares (545,000 acres = 875 sq. miles) are productive woodland and a
considerable area farmland. The timberland lies for the most part in the valley of the
river Klaralven, and the timber is chiefly transported by floating down this stream
and its tributaries. The company’s woods have, for many years past enjoyed the most
careful attention, and the company was certainly the first in Sweden to employ
scientifically trained foresters on a large scale for the care of its woods. The great attention
