The Swedish Historical Society of America,

organised on the 22nd of July, 1905, has for its object:

To collect and preserve for future generations a library
of books and manuscript relating to Swedish men and
institutions on the American continent, or written by
Swedish-Americans, and a Museum containing objects, or
photographs of objects, of interest on account of their
associations with immigrants from Sweden or their
descendants;

To issue publications relating to the Swedish people in
America and in Sweden;

To promote and encourage the study of Swedish history
and literature in American universities and colleges;

To collect, as a part of its library, books relating to the
history, culture and literature of Sweden, so as to constitute
a central Swedish library for America; and thus,

To become, in time, one of the centers of the intellectual
life of the Swedes in America.

The Society will not be able to realize its objects unless
it has the active support of Swedish-Americans; the annual
fee has purposely been put as low as two dollars, so as to
enable all who are interested in Swedish-American matters
to join the Society; while those who wish to give the
Society more substantial and permanent support may do so by
becoming life members; the life membership fee of fifty
dollars entitles those who pay this sum to all the benefits of
membership without further dues; all fees of life members
must, according to the constitution of the Society, be
invested and only the income of such investment can be used
for the purpose of the Society.
