In the death of Rev. Edward Schuch, who after a
lingering illness passed away on December 31, 1921,
the Swedish Historical Society sustained a great loss.
Since the beginning of the organization until last fall,
when his strength began to fail, he has been one of the
most enthusiastic and active workers in the cause. As a
member of the Council he was untiring in his efforts
to build up the society and to achieve the noble purpose
for which it had been organized. A scholar of the finest
type, who was especially interested in historical and
literary questions, he brought to the deliberations of the
Council a genuine sympathy and a rare insight. His
own published works is the best evidence of his ability
and fine cultural interests. Rev. Edward Schuch died
in the prime of Life, only fifty years old, and his early
death was a distinct loss not only to the Swedish
Historical Society but to the whole cause of Swedish culture
in America.
