Ericsson. The unveiling of a statue of Gustavus III
also took place at this time, upon which occasion the
officers of the battleship North Dakota and the
Minnesota delegation, led by the marine band of the
battleship, were given the place of honor.
On July 5 a second resolution was presented to His
Majesty, King Gustav of Sweden, the same members of
the delegation being present now as on the previous
day at Gothenburg.
In introducing the resolution the chairman used the
following words:
“This delegation, appointed by the
Governor of the State of Minnesota by legislative
authority, comes before Your Majesty for the
purpose of presenting to Your Majesty a
resolution adopted by the Legislature of the
said state in recognition of the friendly
relations existing between the people of Sweden
and of the United States of America.
“The Tercentennial at Gothenburg affords
the State of Minnesota the occasion for the
presentation of this resolution at this time.
It, however, only expresses what is
continuously in the hearts of its people, so many of
whom are of Swedish blood.”
To this His Majesty replied in the following words:
“It gives me a very great pleasure to
receive you here today as representatives of
Minnesota, that state in the great union where
lives die largest number of from Sweden
emigrated citizens and their descendants. I
ask you o convey to the authorities and to the
people o Minnesota my heartfelt thanks for
the Resob ion which I have just received from
