Distribution: — This species seems to be of an arctic-boreal nature — not arctic, as

A. M. NORMAN states, 1891, p. 120. According to statements formerly made in the 1 iterature
it occurs:* round Great Britain (G. S. BRADY, A. M. NORMAN and D. ROBERTSON), along
the west and north coasts of Scandinavia (W. LlLLJEBORG, G. 0. SARS, A. M. NORMAN), in
the Kara Sea and ofï the Murman coast (G. 0. SARS and IL J. Hansen), at Franz Josef Land
(Th. Scott), Spitzbergen (W. Lilljeborg, G. O. Sars), Jan Mayen (G. U. Sars), Greenland
(W. Lilljeborg, G. Aurivillius, E. Vanhöffen, K. Steffensen) and north of North America,
lat. 77" N., long. 71" 37’ W. (W. Baird).

Relation tu hydrographical conditions: — According to the results arrived at by the
„C o n s e i 1 per m. internat, p o u r l’e x p 1 o r. de la mer“, collected by C. Apstein,
1911, this species is restricted to comparatively low temperatures. It had been observed at
8,20 0 C and + 1,3° G. As is shown by the information given by me above, it has been found
at a still lower temperature — 1,45° G. Salinity: from 35 to 19,96 %o.

Ph. (Pliilomedes) Lilljeborgi (G. 0. Sars).

* Not on the coast of Finland. This information, which is found in G. W. Muller’s work of 1901, p. JO,
is certainly a mistake; presumably it is, as is already pointed out by C. Apstein, 1911, p. 168, a misprint for
Finm: rken. Not in the Bay of Biscay, as G. VV. Müller states, 1912. This statement, laken from G, S. Bhady’s
work of 1871, p. 292, refers to another species; cf. above,
