Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Bothnia after the last glacial period, has heen fixed
as a species. The final decision ön the nature and origin of these critical forms,
however, must be lei t lo experimenlal genetical work.
Anatomically däfferent geographical forms have been found especially in C.
pale-cicea, where a number of specimens from Finland and — as Was to be expected —
from Ihe shore of the White Sea are very different (Fig. 7 a) from the western
raee (Fig. 6 b). Other specimens are nol so dissimilar, but ön the whole one must
say |bat the Finnish race differs from the western one inuch möre than c.y. the
not very dissimilar North American race.
