Deeply revered, and truly beloved friend,
You will I know excuse, with your wonted Christian kindness,
the liberty I use in thus addressing you. The occasion is as
follows. In writing an annual account of my proceedings & prospects
to be sent home to the Committee, under whose direction I act, I
was led into the train of thought expressed in the enclosed
document3; and as it must, I think, be satisfactory to you to know, not
merely what I say & do here, but especially how I represent my
sayings and doings to my English friends, I deemed it right to
make an extract, and request two friends here to certify its
genuineness You have it herewith.
Before the estimable Sefström departed1, he charged me to let
you know, that Riksdagsmannen Erie Persson, from Forssa, has in
his possession a remarkable letter addressed to him by Prosten Berg,
the contents of which will prove, that there are other grounds
besides religion on which S. & B. cannot agree. E. P. is desirous
that you should see this letter, but waits your naming it to him.
