HANDLINGAR TILL GEORGE SCOTTS VERKSAMHET I SVERIGE I 6 7

May the Lord keep my understanding sound — my heart meek —
full of love — my soul humble, trusting in His will. Think of my
request one evening you sat at the chimney. You in Sweden — I
would never have wished to live otherwhere. You not more there —
I long to follow you. Could I not in any wise be to a service for
the education of your own children. For the English tongue,
practising it more — perhaps I should once be quite home in it. —
O Sir! — let me have a hope — you will help me from a place,
where you should no more have to labour — thither where you —
and others of your mind live.

Still once — dear, best good Sir, let not the memory of my
mean, sole person go lost among all your other weighty thoughts
and places, — in a time you should, as they here tell me, turn for
ever your back to Sweden.

Will you and Mrs Scott give me occasion for developping my
views upon a possible for me happy living with you — or in a
shool in a neighbourhood of you.

O! for peace! — for a right understanding —- for a deep true
religion! —

May it be permitted unto me to kiss your hand, o my
Spiritual Father — and wish upon it all God’s best blessings for time
and eternity!

Gustava Röhl.

28 april 1842.

Kind love to Mrs Scott. Does she know me right — as I
her? — Should we not well agree in the Lord! Oh — yes!

90. Från M. Björnstjerna.’1

Stockholm, 29 Aprill 1842.

Dear Sir!

Permit me on your leaving for England to renew in writing my
expressions of deep regret on account of the circumstances wich
render a yourney to your native Land unavoidable. You have suffered
much here from a certain class, but be assured dear Sir, that
many of the noblest hearts in Sweden feel deeply the wrong done
you; and indeed your position can only be understood by knowing
and acknowledging the destructive power over the public mind,
spe-cialy in the Residence, wich our Radical papers have acquired.

Early last year this power was directed against the foundations
