on in the moonlit night through the hill country at a
speed of thirty-seven miles an hour, without any further
stops. Our journey through the unknown Amiir Dis
trict by the still unfinished line is at an end. To
morrow morning we shall be at Chitå, and on the way
home via Petersburg. And then this long journey will
be over. It is true that there are still four or five
thousand miles before us, but that is not much by the
scale we have grown accustomed to using.
