STRÖMSNÄS JÄRNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG
(THE STRÖMSNÄS IRON WORKS CO., LTD.)
THIS COMPANY manufactures iron and steel at the Degerfors Works, situated about
15 miles from the north-eastern shore of Lake Venern, the largest lake in Sweden.
The Company also manufactures electric pig-iron in furnaces erected at the large
waterfalls of Trollhättan, about 43 miles north of Gothenburg. This last-mentioned
business is run by the Trollhättan Electric Blast Furnace Co., Ltd., nearly all the
shares of which are owned by the Strömsnäs Company.
SITUATION AND CONDITIONS OF TRANSPORT.
Slightly south of the middle point of an imaginary line from Stockholm to
Christiania there are three important iron works close together, namely Björneborg, Bofors and
Degerfors. The largest, as regards production, is Degerfors; it is, as a matter of fact,
one of the largest in Sweden. It lies amid scenery so lovely that it is no exaggeration
to call it one of the most beautiful places in Sweden. The trunks of tall dark pines,
with touches of the lighter foliage of deciduous trees, are reflected in the rushing river
