Ore hauling plant.

feet, there is formed in certain lakes and bogs or marshes, beds of iron ore; the former
being called lake-ore and the latter bog or marsh ore. The ore consists mainly of
hydroxide of iron, Fe(OH)3, containing some impurities, chiefly silica (Si02), alumina,
phosphoric acid (A]203, P205) and organic matter, and has sometimes the shape of peas
or of coins and, occasionally, of irregular small lumps.

After many years of efforts and experiments, the Company, in 1909, at last
succeeded in constructing a dredger suitable for the purpose of taking ore from the
lake bed. The machine simultaneously washes the ore. By this means it became
possible to utilize, at a low cost, the rich lake ore deposits in Lakes Bolmen, Vidöstern, &c.,
already mentioned. It may confidently be asserted that the Company’s ore supplies are
inexhaustible, calculations that have been made showing that, at the rate of 10 months’
pig iron blowing per year, the supplies will last 843 years; this without taking into
calculation the re-formation of the ore. As it is estimated that 25 years, or, possibly, a
little longer, are required for the re-creation of any certain amount of lake or bog ore
removed, it can easily be seen that the ore supplies of Åminne Works are of inestimable
value, and also that they are the only ones of their kind in Sweden.

The following is an analysis of the ore:
