Tapping a Siemens-Martin furnace.

THE FORGING DEPARTEMENT.

This was established in 1871 and has gradually been extended, so that, at the
present time, it embraces 8 steam hammers and 2 pneumatic hammers. The production
is bars, dies, &c. of high-speed-, special- and other tool steel of all kinds, finshed
tools such as forging tools and stone-working tools, steamturbine rotors, rings for
ball-bearing, die forged pieces of all kinds, such as parts-for bicycles, screw wrenches,
hammers, plough bills, &c.

THE TUBE DRAWING DEPARTEMENT

which was built in 1896-97 and entirely reconstructed in 1915 after a fire, has 9 drawing
benches for the manufacture of cold drawn boiler tubes, and tubes for bicycles,
aeroplanes and diamond drilling machines, as well as similar tubes for other purposes.
Further, a special quality of soft steel, easily worked and especially suitable for
automatic machines is drawn, and also hard steel for twist drills, &c.
