P. S. Jag skickade för några månader sedan en bok till
Granville Peterson — “the age of Reason” om Biblens
vederläggning, bed honom skicka den tillbaka, eller tag
den sjelf i förvar, så att den ej blir läst af folket______

.. .What a joy for me, just on this day,... so dark and
difficult because of religious disputes,... tto receive a
letter from him who has worked so much for my spiritual
welfare... 1 have, to be sure, been very active as a strong
Infidel... Concerning the Baptists,... (seeing that there
are several different kinds) 1 believe that you were right
in regard to some of them... Again, concerning
Palm-quist, I believe... that he is only preaching the pure word
of God, without any denominational leanings; and he has
not (according to what I have heard) said anything at any
“meeting” which could give occasion to strifes and
disputes. .. I have spoken to Esbjorn here this week, and
there was so much quarrelling here then that it has
caused me considerable sorrow, because it is not seemly
for Christians to be so bitter towards each others, even
tho they differ in certain inessentials. Perhaps Esbjorn
thought that 1, too, only wanted to besmirch the good
name of others; but... I was really endeavoring to
make them friends. As to who was to blame tor bringing
about this tumult, it is hard to say; I believe both sides
were at fault. — In regard to the Doctor proposition, let
me remind you that it has always been my purpose to
master those studies without which no one can become a
capable physician, before I began to, practice; but... I
have almost entirely given up thinking of that... I am
