elongated branches, whereas var. convoliita bas strongly marked braehyblasts.
Only male or sterile speeimens are known. A curious thing is that the pollen
grains seem to be imperfectly developed. Thus, it may he suspected that var.
convoliita in reality represents a hybrid.» (W. I.e., p. 118.)
It seems now bighly probable that C. graminea L. fil. and C.
aculeata H. Weim. are parents of this type which in reality is beautifully
intermediate between them however different the two species may he.
One of the supposed parents, C. aculeata, is nevertheless loo
insuf-l’iciently known lo allow a safe decision.

Frutex valde ramosus; rami el ramuli glabri: internodia (2—)4—8
mm longa; ramuli abbreviali I -3 mm longi densissime foliati ad basin
vaginis tantum obtecti. Folia 3-foliolata; vagina brevissima 0,3—0,5 mm
longa amplectens glabra; stipulae 0,2 mm longae acutae; foliola il.8—)
2—2.5 tum longa 0,6—0,7 mm lata oblonga oblusa—subacuta crassa
superne concava subtus nervo medio incrassato convexa glalira. Flores
cf sessiles vel breviter pedicellati; bracteolae 1,2—1,5 mm longae ovatae
scariosae breviter ciliolatae; sepala 3 ca. 3 mm longa 1,5—1,8 mm lata
ovata acuniinata rubra; stamina 6: antherae 0,6—0.7 mm longae
