Cliffortia ramosissima Schltr.
The species has a markedly disjunetive area of distrihution (maps
in W. 1934, p. 199 and 1941, p. 31). (’.. ramosissima was hitherto known
from the south-western, the north-western and the south-eastern Cape
cenlres, from the remote Hanlam Berg and from the Drakensberg
centre. The northermost localities were situated in the Orange Free
State. In the collections which I have got ön loan from Kew the species
is furlhermore represented from the Cape, »Aliwal North,
Ruigtefon-tein», .1. Thode, Sept. 1929. n. A 1.849, and from the Transvaal,
»Crewe farm, West Zoutpansberg, 4.900 It.» Hutchinson et Gillett,
23. Aug. 1930, n. 4.431. The former locality comes not very far from
the localities earlier known in the Graaf Reinet and the Queenstown
districts, hut with the latter discovery the species is found to rcacli
the nortliernmost limit of the Drakensberg centre and the
characte-rislic distribution type of the species — scattered localities with
extensive intervals, discussed al length in an earlier paper |\\". 1941) - has
become slill möre marked.
