The outlying localities in the north-west and the south-east are generally confined
to rocks and crevices.
2. Distribution. Q. petraea has a suboceanic distribution area [e.g.
Hård 1924, Weimarck 1947 b). In North Europe the sessile oak is
represented in Norway along the coast to Ihe Nordfjord in the north
(Nordhagen 1940, Lid 1944), in Denmark in Jylland, Sjælland and
Bornholm, in Sweden northward to south Värmland and south
Östergötland, and eastward in Småland to the coast of the Baltic. The species
