On February 25th, 1945, Prime Minister Mackenzie King spoke
by shortwave radio to Canadian troops in Europe on the occasion
of Canada’s official entry into the world radio forum.
In his message, the Prime Minister of Canada hailed international
broadcasting as a powerful means towards understanding and
co-operation among the nations.
Three years after its inauguration, the International Service of
the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation continues steadily to
develop its activities towards this end.
Canada now speaks to the world by shortwave regularly in ten
languages. This service will be expanded to reach an even larger
audience during the coming year.
