Toronto is the capital city of the province of Ontario. The city proper has a
population of nearly 700,000 in a metropolitan area of nearly 1,000,000. Its
34 square miles stretch along 14 miles frontage of the great inland sea of Lake
Ontario.
Toronto is one of Canada’s important commercial and industrial centers
and supports a renowned university, an extensive library system, a fine
municipal symphonic orchestra, art gallery and museum.
Toronto est la capitale de la province d’Ontario. 700,000 torontois vivent
dans la ville proprement dite, mais la région métropolitaine est habitée par
environ 1,000,000 de personnes. Ses 44 kilomètres carrés de superficie
s’étendent sur une distance de 23 kilomètres le long des rives du lac Ontario.
Toronto est l’un des plus importants centres industriels du pays; son uni-
versité, ses bibliothèques, son orchestre symphonique, ses musées d’art ont une
renommée qui dépasse les limites de la ville.
