On the first Monday of September the achievements of Canadian
Labour are celebrated throughout Canada.
“... The Canadian Labour Movement is a free and democratic movement.
Its strength and authority come from below, not from above: from the
workers in the local unions, not from the state.
“There are over 5,100 local branches of unions all across Canada. Each
of these is a workshop of democracy, the source of the leadership, the policies,
and the finances which make the movement function.”
