Program Notes

This Week: Thursdays at 2245 GMT.
Topical analyses of current problems
in trade, agriculture, labour and
business. Each edition consists of
two speakers, often speaking on
related topics. Here commentators
give background on the main divisions
of the Canadian economy, as well as
offering comments on political mat-
ters. Topics are varied according
to the interest of the week and show
various aspects of the Canadian
industrial, agricultural and economic
picture.

Home and Community: Tuesdays
at 2245 GMT. This program presents
the social side of living in Canadian
towns and cities and country districts.
It tells how the housewife conducts
her business inside the home, and
joins her husband and their neighbours
in community activity. Contributors
discuss also the physical aspect of
our communities, as well as the func-
tion of the families and groups living
there.

Where Do we Stand? Sundays at
2240 GMT. A series of discussions
on the lighter side of our social
problems. In March, a Vancouver

panel wonders about disciplining our
children— To beat or not to beat?”
From the Maritimes, two topics are
argued: "Why do Maritimers leave
home ?” and go to the United States
and Central Canada ? and: “Will there
ever be a Canadian novel, as opposed
to regional novels On March 25,
a Winnipeg panel discusses the mix-
ture of ethnic groups found in
Winnipeg and the West on the topic,
“Do new Canadians assimilate ?”

vestigate topics beginning with the

Thursdays: Robert McKeown of the
Standard, from Ottawa.

On Sundays at the same time—
following the news—the series, Let’s
Look at Science, is heard, with
accounts of new or interesting deve-
lopments in Canadian laboratories, in
universities, government labs or in-
dustrial research projects.

On Saturdays at the same time—
following the news—Canadiana is
the title of the weekly story about
Canadian life. This program pre-
sents — in narrative form — legends
from the past, historical yarns, current
tales of adventure.
