Here will be heard programmes on
Canadian music for the month of
January. On January 4, Chester
Duncan of Winnipeg talks about
Western Canadian composers. Mr.
Duncan, himself a composer and
pianist, will illustrate his topic at the
studio keyboard. The following week,
we hear about Eastern Canadian
composers, from Toronto, Canada’s
eastern musical centre. The rest of
the series for January will be devoted
to reviews of performances of out-
standing orchestras and choral groups.
News Analysis: Following news bulle-
tins at 1700, 1845 and 2230 GMT
each weekday, Monday through Fri-
day, observers and commentators
chosen from journalism and academic
life, analyse for overseas listeners
current topics of Canadian and inter-
national interest. Speakers for Janua-
ry include: Frank Swanson, of the
Ottawa Citizen; J. B. McGeachy, of
the Toronto Globe and Mail, a
regular Wednesday broadcaster; James
Gibson, Professor of History at
Carleton College, Ottawa: and Peter
Stursberg of the CBC’s New York
staff at United Nations.
