peoples who form the great Commonwealth family.
In this month of the Coronation of our gracious
Sovereign, I take particular pleasure in voicing the
Sentiments of deep respect and pride which we
Canadians feel.
The people of Canada are happy indeed to acclaim
their new Sovereign, Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, and
to assure her of their most respectful feelings
Of atrrecmoneand loyal
Other countries, independent like ourselves,
have wished to preserve this link with the British
constitutional monarchy. It has helped to preserve
mutual confidence among the members of that great
Community and has fostered the gradual evolution of its
institutions, whose fundamental characteristics are
liberty, equality and the spirit of concord.
The crown which will be placed on the head of
our gracious Sovereign, in accordance with a traditional
and resplendent ritual, is the ancient symbol of that
unity which binds the nations of the Commonwealth. This
event will have a deeper meaning to Canadians because
of their warm memories of the recent visit to Canada of
Her Majesty and her distinguished consort.
