Canada’s 86th Birthday
Canada’s 86th birthday on July the 1st finds her people busier than they
have ever been before. Activity in all lines of enterprise is exceeding former
records and the natural wealth of the country is being developed at a rate
that dwarfs performances in years gone by. The current growth and expansion
is not confined to any one area of the country — it is evident on the Pacific
coast, in the northern stretches, on the prairies, and all through the central
provinces and those on the Atlantic. Dominion Day, as the anniversary of
Confederation is known, is a good day for stock-taking of all phases of Canada’s
progress through the years. And the high position reached this year, observed
side-by-side with our modest beginnings, provides dramatic emphasis of the
striking advances made on all facets of Canadian life.
