Handicraft in Canada
In all areas of Canada, handicraft is a flourishing enterprise. Before the
days of settlement, the Indians and Eskimos engaged in many forms of
craftsmanship which resulted in an infinite variety of objects of utility and
beauty. To native handicraft, still an important part of Canada’s output,
have been added many new styles and techniques. Over the years, as new
settlers kept arriving, they brought with them their own crafts and added
their creativeness to the traditional pattern of Canada’s earliest skills. Not
the least of the most recent contributions has been made by new Canadians
from Europe. Every region of Canada has a part in the work. All add to the
vitality of these activities a vitality that manifests itself in all kinds of
woven material, wood-work, metal-work, pottery, stone figures and a host
of other creations,
