Canada and International Trade Fairs

Since before the days of Confederation Canadians have been conscious
of international trade. The early settlers and fur-traders were
dependant upon the exchange of their primary materials against
the finished goods of other countries and this concept of trade has
been carried forward into modern times. The development of inter-
national trade fairs therefore has been of great interest to this country.
The Canadian government has been participating in fairs and exhibi-
tions since 1851, when Canada had a large display at the Great
Exhibition of London in the Crystal Palace. Throughout the last
hundred years the trade of this young land has expanded at an
astonishing rate until today Canadian goods and produce have
become familiar in all parts of the world. During the last few years
Canada has developed her own international market place, the
Canadian International Trade Fair in Toronto, which has become
an annual event. At the same time Canadian displays will be seen
again this year at trade fairs in many parts of the world.
