Canada and the United Nations

Since the days of the San Francisco Conference in 1945, when Canada helped
to draft the United Nations Charter, this country has supported the world
Organization wholeheartedly. From the start Canadians have served in most
of the main offices and Specialized Agencies of the United Nations.

During the 10-year history of the United Nations, Canada has become
known as an active member nation whose support can always be depended on
in agencies working toward the alleviation of suffering in the world. Canada
has also made a name for herself as a mediator in the task of finding practical
solutions to many complex international problems.

The shortwave broadcasts of the CBC International Service frequently
discuss the many-sided activities of the United Nations and the important

part which Canada plays in them.
