Winter Sports in Canada

As soon as the cold weather takes hold, Canadians young and old turn to
many and varied winter sports and activities like skiing and skating, toboggan-
ing, curling and snowshoeing. But above all it is ice-hockey which holds the
national interest. All winter long amateur and professional hockey teams
compete from coast to coast on the rinks of villages and towns and in the
arenas of the cities. Radio and television carry the game into practically
every Canadian home where the fans listen and watch their favorite team
with great excitement and a critical eye. This year Canada’s international
hockey fame will be defended at the Winter Olympic Games at Cortina
d’Ampezzo by the Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen, a team from the Province

of Ontario.
