. The differences between the growing stock and the annual growth
formerly and after the conclusion of peace do not by any means
indicate the post-war quantities in the ceded territory, as during the
war, and especially during its final phase, forests were destroyed and
despoiled in these areas on a very large scale both in battle and for
purposes of defence.
