separately for the predominating stand, the standards and the
undergrowth. In the present instance the age-classes are examined
exclusively according to the age of the predominating stand and only
regarding the productive forest land. As the development of the stands
of different species differs, the examination is made separately for
forests dominated by pine, spruce and birch.
The age-classes are illustrated in Table 10, in which the figures for
the southern and northern halves of the country are given separately
owing to the difference in the development of the forests.

As, in the southern half of Finland, an average age of at least
90 years may be estimated as a sufficient rotation period in view of
the present demand for raw material, the age-classes can be briefly
described as follows:
