Bois they had the 69th Regiment of the 20th French Army
Corps. In the same way it was known to a nicety how the
various enemy units were located along this front of six hun-
dred kilometres. Any movements of troops, and what such
movements might portend, were also known immediately.
But it is getting late. We take leave of the most charming
General and his Staff and drive home through the moonlit
silent night. And I for my part could not help thinking of
the young lieutenant about to embark on his first experience
of trench life.
