Yed Aaret 1609-10 naaede Fletcher for sig og
Beaumont i Forening med ham dog deres Højdepunkt
baade som Digtere og som Forfattere for Teatret. Det
skovfriske Hyrdespil, som Fletcher alene er Ophav til,
The faithfal Shepherdess, maa have været offenliggjort
før Foraaret 1610, siden Sir William Skipwith, den ene
af de Mænd, til hvem det har Tilegnelsesdigte, døde
i Maj dette Aar. Fletcher har her fundet et Æmne, der
egnede sig til Afløb for hans friske, lette, gratiøse
Lyrik. Atter her har Shakespeare kunnet føle en af
sine egne Frembringelser, Skærsommernatsdrømmen,
som det fjerne Forbillede. Ogsaa her skifter de
Elskende Skikkelse, saa Perigot omfavner Amarillis i
Amorets Skikkelse, troende at omfavne sin Hjertenskær;
iøvrigt saarer
