Larus Eburneus, niveus, immaculatus, pedibus plumbeo-cinereis.
Found on the coaft of Spitfbergen.
This beautiful bird is not defcribed by Linnzus, nor, I believe, by any other author ;
it is nearly related indeed to the rathfher, defcribed by Marten in his voyage to Spitf-
bergen, (fee page 77 of the Englifh tranflation) but, unlefs that author is much miftaken
in his defcription, differs effentially from it. Its place in the Sy{tema Natura feems to
be next after the Larus neevius, where the fpecifick difference given above, which will
diftinguifh it from all the fpecies defcribed by Linnzus, may be inferted.
Defcription.—Tota avis (quoad pennas) nivea, immaculata.
Roftrum plumbeum.
Orbitz oculorum crocez.
Pedes cinereo-plumbei. Ungues nigzi.
Digitus Pofticus articulatus, unguiculatus.
Alz cauda longiores,
